As a part of his deal with Marvel, Avengers director Joss Whedon will oversee a new TV show. Whedon, who has already signed on to write and direct the 2014 sequel to the superhero blockbuster, will also be spending his time working on the new series, which will follow the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division – better known in the Marvel universe as S.H.I.E.L.D. Details on the show are scarce, but fan forums have, predictably, lit up with rampant speculation regarding the chronology of the series – if it winds up being pre-Avengers, the show could conceivably see the return of Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson. It also remains to be seen whether any of the big-screen heroes will appear in the show.

There are no details of when the series might air, but U.S. network ABC has reportedly ordered a pilot episode.
