Creative Commons, an organization which promotes the free-sharing of information on the internet by providing alternative copyright licenses, is holding a concert in Tunis, in conjunction with Tunisian activist website nawaat.org, as part of its third Creative Commons Arab regional meeting. The meeting will be attended by youth and civil society members from across the region and is intended to celebrate their values of “sharism” (a belief that information, creativity and innovation should be available for free on the internet). A series of workshops will help inform attendees of the organization’s work.

The concert will feature artists from throughout the Middle East including Ramy Essam, the guitarist who shot to fame with his protest songs during the Egyptian revolution, Reda Zine from Morocco and Palestinian rapper Ayman Mghamis. The artists’ performances will be released under a Creative Commons license which means it can be legally shared for free for non-commercial purposes. A CD of the concert will be released later in the year through an online social game.

The meeting will take place in Tunis from June 30th to July 1st and the concert will take place on July 2nd. Entrance is free.
