Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis will release a new solo album this summer. Tied to a Star will be released on August 25th via Sub Pop and features guest appearances from Cat Power’s Chan Marshall, Black Heart Procession's Pall Jenkins, Mark Mulcahy and Ken Maiuri from Young@Heart Chorus. Mascis self-produced the LP, enlisting mixing help from longtime Dinosaur Jr. collaborator John Agnello.

You can now listen to the album’s first single "Every Morning," a mid-tempo, acoustic-anchored rocker that finds Mascis's double-tracked vocals paving the way for a typically sticky electric guitar solo. "Oh baby, won’t you see me… every morning makes it hard on me," the Massachusetts-based musician declares, though one senses not without a wry smirk.

Mascis spoke to Rolling Stone recently about Tied to a Star, noting that it's "mostly acoustic, mellow stuff."

"There's not many other people on the record," Mascis said. "So I'll just tour by myself for it probably. I put out a record a couple of years ago like that. I got this guy Ken, a local guy, to play piano. And Paul from Black Heart Procession does a couple things. The last album had a lot of different people. This one I didn't have that much."

Tied to a Star is the latest in a string of solo and Dinosaur Jr. endeavors for the long-haired legend named one of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists. The new album comes in the wake of his 2011 solo album, Several Shades of Why and the following year’s Dinosaur Jr. LP, I Bet on Sky.
