This Time For Africa
New e-commerce site KISUA spotlights African design industry

For its initial launch this month, ecommerce site KISUA will offer fully funded collaborative capsule lines from 10 designers across Africa, from South Africa to the Democratic Republic of Congo. This first ‘drop,’ however, is only the start of an ambitious plan by CEO Samuel Mensah and his partner, creative director Danica Lepan, to bring emerging and established African designs to the global market, highlighting traditional and specialized methods such as beading, dyeing, weaving and hand-printing. They’ve successfully rallied the support of other powerful voices with ties to Africa – including designer Ozwald Boateng and Lagos fashion and design week founder Omoyemi Akerele – who will act as brand advisors, and intend to dedicate a content-filled portion of the site to contemporary African culture, with stories ranging from fashion, music, art and literature.
